Well I had my appointment and testing yesterday and guess what? I still know nothing LOL. Well thats not really true. I have not lost any vision as of yet. However I still having cupping of the optic nerve and my intraocular pressure has been steadily rising the last few years it seems. It was 14, next two years it was 16 and now its at 18. Normal is generally 10-20. While this is not abnormal per se, its not a good sign combined with the cupping. So as it stands right now I am considered highly suspicious for glaucoma and I go back in December to do it all again as they want to keep a close eye on me. My understanding is that there cannot be a diagnosis of glaucoma until you actually lose vision. That is the final confirmation, losing vision in a "glaucoma pattern" So I can't see that there is anything to be done really except to enjoy what I have while I have it.

At least you are still in normal range and they are keeping a watch on it. Doctors can be so tacky.
If my grandmother had lost any vision when hers was discovered, it was negligible, and once she had her cataracts removed, her vision was very good. She had to use special eye drops for the rest of her life but she was glad to do this.
I really need to go get this test done myself since glaucoma runs in my family.
It seems to be all within the still-no-trouble-range. Yes, enjoy what is while it is. (raine)
Glad to see it is still in normal range. So between now and December you have nothing to do but enjoying the view. (((hugs)))
I thought Glaucoma was treatable if treated in time, by the time you loose your vision it seems a bit late.
Glaucoma runs in my familyand I was told if you catch it in time and gofor regular check ups it's nothing to worry about.
Check this out;

why are they even checkin if your vision is ok?
is it a random thing due to a med?
just wonderin, cuz i am on a med that says i am supposed to have the glaucoma check every so often, but haven't ever been checked -- and i've gone half blind since i started takin it ten years or so ago.
anyhow-- aside from that.. howya doin ? :))
Annie it is treatable and controllable. I just get paranoid because I always fall into the lower percentages and react to meds. For example- the commercial for Cymbalta say you may experience constipation- I got diarrhea so bad I lost 18 pounds in 3 weeks and that side effect was so rare it wasnt even listed. When I am having alot of depression and anxiety I can really worry about stuff like being blind. Right now I feel ok and I am not worried. When the other hits I will undoubtedly be tripping on the possibility of going blind again.
I pray that your experience with glaucoma will be like my dad's ... he was diagnosed 20 years ago and has not lost any vision due to it.
Soul, they check everyone at least annually (including children) because it can strike at any age and once vision is lost or symptoms are felt, damage is done and it's irreversible. There is usually a few years with the condition before it starts to damage anything ..so catching it early, means treating it.
I take 2 meds that put my eyes at risk, Plaquenil and Prednisone. Please get your eyes taken care of ..meds can do as much harm as they do good.
Soul I have been wearing glasses since I was six and I have very bad vision. Its part of my yearly exam
wow-- yup i'll do that. need to anyhow-- i need glasses in a bad way !
so anyways-- go check out my blog-- i have somethin there for ya :))
